25 January to 22 February 2025

Opening event  Saturday 8 February 2025, 2-4 pm

To be officially opened by Simon Chan AM, with guest speaker Dr Luise Guest

In Carving Perspectives, Fan Dongwang merges traditional Chinese carving techniques with contemporary painting. Using brushes to ‘sculpt’ the canvas surface, he creates intricate lines and shadows, evoking a three-dimensional illusion. This fusion of Chinese decorative art, Western perspective, and pop art create a spatial depth that transcends the canvas.

Chinese-born Australian artist Dr Fan Dongwang studied traditional Chinese art at Shanghai School of Arts and Crafts in the 70’s and later became an art teacher at SSAC. In 1990 Fan migrated to Australia as an artist of ‘Distinguished Talent’. He studied Master of Arts at COFA, NSW University (now UNSW Art+Design), and received a Post Graduate Award and completed Doctor of Creative Art at Wollongong University. Fan’s artworks have won numerous art prizes and are featured in public and private collections in China and Australia.

Fan Dongwang is represented by ART ATRIUM.
