Drawn to Word
Drawn to Word
Artworks by contemporary Australian illustrators
Collaboration with the Abbotsleigh Literary Festival
2 to 28 June May 2014
The artists presented in this exhibition create works in response to words – words from stories, news and events. In illustration everything is shown to be possible and the images in Drawn to Word will interest both adult and child.
We see human and animal exploits, comic turns and magical transformations along with learning about colours, numbers and social behaviour.
All the illustrators appreciate the importance of drawing and they have expanded this skill into a wide range of media. The exhibition reveals the thinking and working process of the illustrator, showing rough sketches, ready to print images and digital manipulations.
Artists: Sara Acton; Bronwyn Bancroft; Freya Blackwood; Sarah Davis; Kim Gamble; Gus Gordon; David Lovegrove; Cathy Wilcox; Rocco Fazzari.
Opening with ABC Radio presenter and author Richard Glover
Richard Glover opened both the Abbotsleigh Literary Festival and Drawn to Word with a Champagne Reception held in the Gallery. Gus Gordon donated a print for a lucky attendee and Room to Read donated a collection of books.
